We actively engage in generating donations and forming partnerships with reputable non-profit organizations and government agencies dedicated to eradicating homelessness. Through this impactful collaboration, our goal is to optimize resources, eliminate duplication, bridge gaps, and enhance outcomes for individuals facing homelessness or at risk of becoming homeless.
Muslims for Homeless is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization helping homeless individuals and families. We believe that affordable housing, sufficient food and the chance to work for a living wage are fundamental rights in a civilized society.
Muslims for Homeless effectiveness derives from our unique role as both an advocacy and direct service organization. Our programs, shelter monitoring and grassroots organizing enable us to meet homeless people where they are – giving voice and hope to the most marginalized among us.
Homelessness has been an issue affecting the poor and vulnerable in society since times immemorial and continues even today.
Islam addresses homelessness by emphasizing charity. It seeks to create a just and compassionate society, where individuals are morally guided to care for the less fortunate. The Holy Quran and Ahadith emphasize charity as good deeds, serving as a means to gain God’s pleasure and achieve spiritual ascension, a central goal for Muslims.
The Holy Quran states:
‘And what should make thee know what the ascent is?
It is the freeing of a slave.
Or feeding in a day of hunger
An orphan near of kin,
Or a poor man lying in the dust.’ Holy Quran (90:13-17)
